Andreas Wigger

Andreas Wigger was born in 1956 in Doppleschwand, Switzerland. He holds a MA in Theology from the University of Fribourg / Switzerland and a MSc in Development Management from the Open University in London.
From 1985 till 2014, he has worked as a Delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Being fluent in Arabic, he was posted mainly in the Middle East and in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where he organized protection and assistance to victims of conflicts. From 2008 till 2014, he was Head of the Protection and Tracing Agency Division at the ICRC Headquarters in Geneva. In 2014, he joined the Board of Médecins sans frontiers (MSF) Switzerland.
Apart of this continuous humanitarian engagement, he has been active for the last four years as a beekeeper in the mountainous areas of the Jura and has started various types of organic gardening. He enriches his thinking on international developmental concepts and policies with local practice and experience and appreciates meeting with people in Africa who devote their life to finding better education for young people in agricultural techniques and approaches.
